Downtown Edge - Roof

A figure clad in crimson and black is perched on the roof of a certain building in town, one leg drawn up to his chest as he sits and reads. An oddly formed black wing is draped from his left shoulder, the feathers blowing slightly in the breeze. He seems completely oblivious to all that is going on around him, but in fact, he's reading up there to keep an eye on things. The instant anything doesn't look or sound right, he'll look up. If he continues to be concerned, he may pull his crimson sword. For now, he's peaceful. And strange. Approaching him peacefully will result in an odd greeting.

Downtown Edge - Ground

Or you may chance to meet him roaming about the city. The wing is not visible here, perhaps so it won't catch on anything, perhaps for some other reason. He roams amid the people, thoughtful, still alert for any trouble. When he happens to encounter a thief running away from a market stall, he takes it in stride and just sticks out a leg to trip the thief. "An overly used trope, but effective." He bends down to retrieve the stolen items.

Are you a passerby? Or are you the thief?

Hotel

Whoever this person is, he isn't registered at the hotel. He does, however, seem to linger outside it off and on throughout the day, perhaps again checking for trouble, perhaps for some other reason. If anyone moves to come out the doors, he slips away into the trees and shrubbery on the grounds. He doesn't want to be seen. Why?
